A brand new NFL season is on our doorstep, and we at The Shops @Rokvale are quite excited about it. There’s nothing like watching touchdowns, sacks, fumbles, interceptions and missed field goals as the time expires to send your team to victory. To prepare ourselves for the new season, let’s look back at some of the greatest Philadelphia Eagles of all-time.

The Eagles are one of the most storied franchises in the league. Filled with great teams and individual players, the club reached the pinnacle of success when Nick Foles led them to a win in Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots. It’s difficult to narrow down all these great players from so many teams, but it can be a fun process nonetheless. We’re fans of the Eagles. Let’s start with the great Tommy Mcdonald.

5. Tommy Mcdonald

Many of us didn’t have the honor of watching Tommy Mcdonald play in the flesh.; those that did can be considered a lucky bunch. Mcdonald had hands that could catch the football if it was remotely close to him. He was selected in the third round of the draft in 1957. It would work well for Philadelphia as he would finish his career with 495 catches for 8,410 yards and 84 touchdowns. Think of those statistics for a moment.

Tommy Mcdonald didn’t play in the high-octane offensive game that fans are accustomed to seeing in today’s game. His career went from 1957 through 1968, not exactly a period where they would average more passing attempts than rushes. He was an offensive weapon in the passing game before it was popular. Mcdonald–elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998–is forever remembered as a fun character and great pass catcher.

4. Brian Dawkins

His career spanned for over 16 years. It was a beautiful one at that with stats that make most fans of the game do a double-take: 1,131 tackles, 37 interceptions, 36 fumbles forced and 26 sacks. Let’s not forget that Brian Dawkins was a safety.

He made it to the Pro Bowl nine times in his career, revolutionizing the play at his position along the way. There are few at his position who have played the game quite like him. Brian Dawkins is an Eagles legend, who was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

3. Chuck Bednarik

A career Eagle, Bednarik would hit the opposing players with force through his tremendous career in green. Known for toughness and grit, Bednarik only missed three games in 14 years in Philadelphia. Oh, and he was a two-way player.

On top of his duties as a linebacker, Bednarik also played center. He shined on both sides of the ball and is often received as one of the greatest players in NFL history. He would go on the finish his career with 20 interceptions. He is also a member of the Hall of Fame as part of the 1967 class.

2. Reggie White

Is Reggie White one of the best defensive ends in NFL history? We think so. He registered 124 sacks in 121 games with the Eagles. Those stats are unheard of. There’s reason opposing quarterbacks were terrified of White during his playing career. The Hall of Fame defensive end is remembered fondly for his 8 years with the Eagles.

1. Steve Van Buren

The halfback position was transformed due to Van Buren. He rushed for 5,860 yards from 1944-1951 with the Eagles. A legend of all legends, he is the greatest Eagles of all-time. Want to chat about our list? Come see us at The Shops @Rokvale.
