Can you feel that chill in the air? When the winter weather starts to get you down, the solution is to make a delicious cold-weather cocktail. These are some of our favorite winter recipes; try one after you’ve spent the day visiting the Shops @Rockvale!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

• Your favorite hot chocolate
• Peppermint schnapps
• Peppermint candy canes
• Marshmallows

Instructions:

This is the simplest and sweetest cold-weather cocktail out there. First, prepare your hot chocolate just how you like it. Maybe you’re the type to melt chocolate in a pan and whisk it with milk and sugar. Maybe you prefer the instant-packet lifestyle. No judgment, just chocolate.

Measure one shot of peppermint schnapps into each adult’s mug. Pour the hot chocolate over the alcohol, and stir with a peppermint candy cane. Decorate with marshmallows, crushed candy canes, and anything else that strikes your fancy.

Cherry Pie Cocktail

Ingredients:

• Cherry juice
• Amaretto
• Vanilla vodka
• Whipped cream
• Maraschino cherries
• Pie crust crumble

Make your pie crust crumble first; consider making extra for multiple drinks. Roll out a thin sheet of premade pie dough and place it on a cookie tray. Bake at 425 degrees until lightly browned. After it’s cooled, crumble it up to use as a topping.

Now it’s time for the cocktail. Heat cherry juice in a small pan; you’ll want around 2.5 ounces for each drink. Pour the juice into glasses and add around 1 ounce of amaretto and 1.5 ounces of vanilla vodka to each.

Top your creations with whipped cream, pie crust crumble, and maraschino cherries.

The Suburban

Ingredients:

• Rye whiskey or bourbon
• Dark rum
• Red port
• Aromatic bitters
• Orange bitters

Instructions:

If cold weather makes you crave a classic cocktail, the Suburban is the choice for you. This drink mixes whiskey, rum, and port wine for a surprisingly delicious result.

The proportions for the Suburban are a matter of taste. We recommend starting with a shot of whiskey and three-quarter shots of both the port and the rum. Add dashes of bitters to taste. Stir the ingredients with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. You can garnish it with orange peel for an extra bit of flair.

Ancho Chile Mulled Cider

Ingredients:

• Apple cider
• Ground ancho chiles
• Dark rum
• Thin-sliced lemon
• Thin-sliced orange
• Lemon juice
• Cinammon sticks
• Whole cloves

Instructions:

This recipe is by Mark Masker from Firey Foods Central. Take your time making this one; the end flavor is absolutely worth it.

Start by combining your liquid ingredients in a saucepan. The original recipe recommends 2 cups of rum and 2 quarters of your favorite apple cider. You’ll also want 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. After you’ve given that a stir, add 1 tablespoon of ground ancho chiles.

Stir once more before floating 4 cinnamon sticks, a few lemon and orange slices, and 2 tablespoons of whole cloves in the pot.

Heat your pan over low heat, and don’t bring it all the way to a boil. Simmer for around 15 minutes or until the smell is completely irresistible. Strain into mugs, and enjoy.
